The Sonoran Desert Toad is an amphibian known for producing a poison that contains the psychedelic DMT. This toad poses a threat to dogs all around Tucson, with their poison being deadly to those who bite. The long trill of American Toads (Anaxyrus americanus) is a common sound on March nights. This native toad can be found across the eastern US in woodlands, grassy fields, and roadsides. During late winter and spring, they mate in shallow, fish-free pools of water. The females then lay thousands of eggs in a pair of long, spiraling threads.
