I love sharkbite connections. Super simple to work with and they can be removed easily for repairs, adjustments, or replacements! We have PEX plumbing within our home so these connections are perfect. I wanted another backflow preventer after the junction for our water where it splits and goes inside say one way and to the sprinklers the other way. Although the sprinkler lines already have a backflow preventer, I wanted one on the house water side as well. The SharkBite 1 in. BF-1 Series Dual Check Backflow Preventer with Connections was super easy to splice into our existing 1 in water line. This also came with the tool required to remove the connection if I ever need to adjust or repair the check valves. This will not work with PVC.

Backflow Preventer valve
Reviewed on www.homedepot.com·HomeDepotCustomer
The Cash Acme dual check valve backflow preventer has a brass housing with a high flow, non corroding plastic check valve assembly. The BF-1 valve can be buried directly in the ground as long as the soil is not or acidic/alkaline and does not contain contaminants, otherwise wrap the valve with Sharkbite Silicone Burial Wrap. Can be installed either vertically or horizontally, and should be installed downstream of a pressure regulator, if used. The double o-ring union seal is made for an easy install. Comes with a 2-year warranty, and rebuild assembly is available ( part number 17373-0000) if you ever need to service the valve. Not for hot water lines.

Solid piece of kit!

Really well made and solid back flow preventer. Most people never think about these until one goes bad. Certainly, having a good back flow preventer is good working condition is important especially if you have a sprinkler or irrigation system - you don't want any nasty chemicals getting siphoned into your drinking water. A bad backflow preventer can also contribute to well pump short cycling reducing the life of your well pump. The heavy cast bronze body along with EPDM seals and stainless-steel springs should guarantee a long life. Very well made.

No going back

Solidly constructed with a bronze cast body, machined FIP threads and union equipped for access to working parts. Dual check design for positive stopping of reverse flow and straight through design to minimize pressure loss which for the typical household application is probably no more than 3 psi. My intended use is for mounting in the suction line of a well pump, which aged piping needs replaced, to maintain system pressure during the off-cycle of pump operation

I am in the middle of repairing several stores backflow preventors - These are required to be tested and validated as good by each city. I took precautions further and added these to smaller lines to have a backflow in other locations as well. This unit works exceptionally well. I found that at mop sinks this can be a lifesaver due to employees not doing their part. I found these to be invaluable.

Like all other sharkbite plumbing parts, this one passes with flying colors. Only problem with sharkbite is they are expensive. This part is heavy duty, well made, & should last a lifetime. Installation is easy. Pex tubing & copper tubing fit right in one side & its snug & secure. No leaks. The other side is threaded for threaded pipe. This adapter makes it easy to convert.

Happy that Home Depot sells professional products like this one. In the past I tried to buy items like this from a plumbing supply, only to be looked at like a bug on a cookie.

This backflow preventer seems to...

This backflow preventer seems to be well made and it works very well. It is brass on the outside and has valves with rubber seals on the inside. It has two separate spring loaded valves on the inside with rubber seals between them. It held 35 psi back pressure with no leakage when I tested it. I don't know if you can buy the valves separate, but if you can, you could replace just the valves, as the whole thing will come apart. I am not super fond of plastic valves, but they seem to work. The inlet is what they call 1 1/4" Meter Swivel Nut, it has female threads that measure 1.53" with a rubber gasket. The outlet is a 1" Female Shark Bite Fitting. They do include a Shark Bite release tool so you can take the Shark Bite fitting apart if needed. I like the Shark Bite fittings as just push together to connect. The opening in the plastic check valve is about .75". The valve is about 6 3/4" long and about 2 1/8" in diameter at the nut. All in all a nicely built backflow valve

Works like expected
Reviewed on www.homedepot.com·HomeDepotCustomer
First impressions its heavy and heavy usually makes you feel comfortable like it's good quality, the body of the check valve is solid brass construction, threaded ends are done well and sealing surfaces are machined well, it has a nylon seal and a nylon check valve ball, I was surprised it was a nylon ball, I was expecting a stainless steel ball against a nylon sealing surface, I'm sure this will work fine and get the job done as expected though.

Best one available.

This backflow preventer is a similar design quality to the "name brand" that worked for 25 years without an issue. Much better than the new design of lesser quality and strength available in big box stores.
